Concept art for the characters of my student project “Doubt’s Dungeon”.
We wanted to create a ghost-like main character that had a subtle personality.
A major design element that we wanted to focus on was flowing aspects on the body and clothes and a focus on capes and cloaks for any clothes.
I wanted our main character to have glowing parts to help drive home the ghost aspect.
We went with the 7th concept as we really enjoyed the rib-cage that imitated armor.
We had a pretty quick turnaround for this concept as we needed to get the character into the game quickly, so we pretty much took the sketch and directly developed it.
I think the final product is a solid character and they suit the look of the game well.
We also wanted to develop a vendor character who would set up shop in a randomly generating room. We wanted this character to be a bit of a hoarder, but an overall cute character. My team really enjoyed the concept of one of Menty's designs, and wanted to see it developed into another character in the game so I decided to implement it into the vendor design process. I also added a couple extra designs just to be sure we liked the original, and we ended up using elements of these designs in the final version, such as the large backpack and star patterned cloak.
I also included my color concept for the in-game scene layout to better clarify the color pallet of the environment.
